The MERK II is a portable Codec and Mixer. It is based on the well known and introduced CENTAURI product family. While typical portable devices have restrictions on the number of audio I/O and compatibility, the MERK II development has focussed on extended features and functionality in that area.
MERK II supports dual codec mode as well as point-to-multipoint transmissions – the dream of a reporter to reach up to 8 destinations simultaneously with e.g. 64kBit/s AAC audio quality. Up to four people for extended interview groups or a combination of original stadium sound plus two interview people can be transmitted simultaneously in stereo with all mixing parameters under control. Individually controllable send/receive levels for headphone monitoring allow the right mix for each interview partner.

Über 50 Jahre ist der Eurovision Song Contest die größte Pop-Musik und Medien-Veranstaltung Europas mit einem Fernsehpublikum von ca. 100 Millionen Zuschauern. 2006 fand der Wettbewerb auf der Olympic Indoor Arena in Athen in Griechenland statt.
Die besten Künstler aus 37 Ländern nahmen in diesem Jahr am Eurovision Song Contest teil. Das Ausmaß der technischen Innovationen, die bei der Show eingesetzt werden, ist enorm.
Um die schwierige Arbeit der Kommentatoren und Journalisten zu erleichtern, und die technischen Abläufe einheitlicher zu gestalten, hat der technische Ausrüster der Veranstaltung, die Firma TVN (Deutschland), 50 Portable Gateway Codecs MERK II gemietet.
Das Desktop-Gerät von MAYAH vereint die Vorteile eines fortgeschrittenen professionellen Audio-Codecs und die eines kleinen und leistungsfähigen digitalen Mischpults. Bis zu 4 Mikrofone und 4 Kopfhörer können an den MERK II angeschlossen werden. Dazu gibt es noch analoge und digitale AES/EBU Eingänge. MERK II kann über IP, ISDN oder X.21-Netzwerke senden. Dabei bietet das Gerät eine Auswahl von mehr als 15 professionellen Codierungsverfahren, inklusive der MPEG-Familie, Eapt-X und mehr.
Beim Eurovision Song Contest 2006 in Athen werden MERK II in jeder Kommentatoren-Box installiert sein. Das Signal wird direkt ins Sendezentrum des entsprechenden Nationalsenders über ISDN übertragen.
